dear erik, i am completely new to hydroponics, and have read countless articles explaining pH and TDS,and nutrients, but perhaps i’ve read too much because im completely confused, its starting to feel like rocket science,, i was wondering if you could do a video for the complete newbie, explaining the essentials in a way in which newbies could understand, like pH, administering nutrients when and at what levels, how to monitor pH and nutrient uptake, when to add more, starting food for seedlings?

i hate to be the one to say it:

Organic teas are not very well suited to rockwool. The organic materials in the teas quickly clog up the pore spaces in the rockwool, choking the plants roots of oxygen and the microbes necessary to keep organic nutrients available.

It’s OK to use organic teas as supplements in rockwool, although the amount you need of them as a “base nutrient” will be too much to keep things healthy in rockwool….

try using coco coir instead of rockwool, or hydroton.

Thanks for the reply, I wanted to know one more thing. Can we make the nutrients at home and also if i get some seeds or roots then how should i process it in order to actually start it growing. should i juest put it in the water? please advice.

small seedlings won’t need fertilizers until they develop their first set of “true” leaves, as opposed to the “cotyledon” (seed leaves). Otherwise, yes, plants require nutrients to perform a variety of necessary and essential functions for growth.

Is it ok to start a small hydroponic garden without any nutients? Will the plants still grow? or Nutrients just speed up the growing process?
