VTS 03 1King Thailand king His Majestys Rice Paddy.
The foundation of Thai society is the agricultural community in which rice has forever been the string that bond and create peaceful living. I have had the chance to study and experiment working in the rice paddies and I realize the hardships and obstacles. Since one of his Majesty the Kings commitment is to ensure that the kingdoms farmers are able to thrive within their means it is therefore not surprising that numerous royal activities involve agriculture. The fact that there lies a personal royal rice paddy field within the Chitrlada palace grounds emphasizes the importance of agriculture to His Majesty. In the year 1960 His Majesty the King re-instituted with modifications the Royal Ploughing Ceremony to preserve this sacred ancient ceremony for the purpose of raising the morale and spirit of the Thai populous which is primarily agrarian. The modification His Majesty made was to combine the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, which had not been performed since 2479 leaving only the performance of the Puedmongkol Royal ceremony to encourage the morale of the farmers during that period. For the last four decades we have been graced with His Majestys personal participation in the Ploughing Ceremony. Along with the information and practical know-how rice grains from His Majestys demonstration rice paddy have been distributed throughout the kingdom to individual as a token of His Majestys concern and a symbol of his sincere wishes for prosperity.
